Skywatch Friday

Welcome to Skywatch Friday.
This photo was taken just east of here in the farmlands of Sumas Prairie. This barn looks crooked, but everything else is straight. It was a partly cloudy day, warm for a fall day.

Some more photos of the Water Wall in Minter Gardens in Chilliwack.
It is a good place to play with your shutter speed, and try and catch the water drops.

Getting the lighting right is hard too because even on a sunny day it is a lot darker standing behind the water curtain.

And I tryed it out in black/white as well.

Macro Monday

Fall is here and leaves are falling.
This leaf was just clinging on the tree, crumpled up and mostly dead.

And fallen leaves in the grass.

The Weekend in Black and White

I woke up this morning early to a world of fog. By the time I was up and dressed and out the door, a lot of the fog had burned off but everywhere I walked I found spider webs, some with thier owners perched in them, waiting for breakfast and some empty.
Still a few small waterdrops that had not evaporated on the web.

Friday's Favorite Five

I have to work all this weekend, albiet from home. It is not work that I enjoy doing at all. I am not one who likes to take any work home ever, and this work means working at home. I just find it invasive.
So, it would be a good thing for me to find five favorite things to be grateful for as I go into this weekend!!

1) Photoshop - I started a new University course on Wednesday with our local University. It is a credit course toward a Media certificate. It is a challenge and I know that it will also help me to create much better photos than I put out now. I am excited to learn!
2) Photo Club - my girlfriend Cindy and I joined the local Photo Club and went to the first meeting this past Monday. They promise that membership will enhance our Photography skills!
3) The local Library - where I stocked up on Photolife Magazines and a new book for the weekend.
4) Chapleo Coffee Shop - where Hubby and I love to go and spend time on rainy afternoons. We take our laptops and enjoy specialty drinks and read the newspaper. My favorite drink right now at the coffee shop is Mocha Chai Lattes!!
5) Berry Park, behind our house is a newly built Sports Park that was officially opened on Thursday. The sports field is always full of children playing soccer and lots of people cheering!! The park has a quarter mile track around it which I am really enjoying walking around, especially with lots to watch on the field. I love to see the park now used by children and their families doing just what kids should be doing - playing!!

Macro Monday

Now that Spring is just about over, there are still some fruits to enjoy fresh from the orchards.
The Apple Orchards are open for picking apples right now. I love a good apple with a chunk of cheddar cheese.

Peaches are ripe now, great cut up over ice cream or just by themselves!!

Weekend in Black and White

My hubby and I attended the Illuminaria in Mission tonight, and I took a bit of a walk up to the Grotto to take a few pictures.
The Grotto is the original Shrine built on the Heritage Park site back when the property housed a Catholic residential school and church.

It seemed that no matter how many times I took the pictures, the Grotto always seemed to be tilting. Its a beautiful place to see and a nice walk to get to it on the hill.

Cucumber and Melon Salad
1 large Honeydew or Cantaloupe Melon
1 large English Cucumber
Cut up melon and cucumber into bite size pieces. You don't have to peel the cucumber if you choose. I like the added colour that the peel gives in the salad.

Dressing:
2 TBSP. Plain Yogurt
1 TBSP. Honey
2 TBSP. Fresh Lemon Juice
Zest of the Lemon
2 TBSP. Fresh Mint
4 chopped Scallions
1 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Fresh Ground Pepper
Chopped chives for garnish
Mix dressing ingredients completely and toss in salad. Garnish with fresh minced chives and mint.

This is a very nice refreshing salad that pairs well with barbequed Salmon or Chicken.
Mint for garnish

Skywatch Friday

Blue skies Skywatch!!
The building here is Central Abbotsford, City Hall.
I love the cooler days of Indian Summer in September. The skies are still blue and the temperatures are a bit cooler, easier to take than those sweltering summer days of last month. At times you will find the moon out at the same time as the sun, in the later afternoon.

As this picture was being taken, movement on the other side of the building attracted my attention.
If you look real close or better yet, click on the photo and zero in on the Peregrine Falcon roosting on the side of the building.

Watery Wednesday

There is a huge water fountain in the grounds behind City Hall. Here are a couple of pictures taken by the fountain.
I liked the colours of the brickwork through the water drops. The water was shooting out of all kinds of directions.

The top of one of the Water Spouts in the fountain

Macro Monday

It's Apple Season here, the apple farms opened this past weekend and the apples are ready for harvest.
What is better than an Apple a Day?

There is nothing so delicious as biting into a freshly picked beautiful apple just picked off the tree. Even warm from the sunshine of the day makes for a huge burst of apple goodness in your mouth!!

These apples are Honeycrisp Apples. My favorite apple!!

Today's Flowers

Find a garden and you can usually find a butterfly. They are very flitting and very elusive and if you look really carefully you might be blessed to see them.
Just when you see the butterfly, she flys away!

Finally able to catch the butterfly resting for a second!

Skywatch Friday

The other night I stuck my head out the back door and saw this sunset. I ran and grabbed my camera fast and snapped a few quick pictures.
In a matter of a few minutes the colour started to fade.

It gets dark so early now that Fall is approaching, you have to look to the skies a bit earlier each night to catch glimpses of beautiful sunsets.

Today's Flowers

It seems that when September arrives the flowers of spring and summer start to fade really fast and the gardens turn more to the colours of fall. The plant nurseries are selling more of the green plants, such as the decorative grasses, vines and herbs and people turn to cleaning up thier gardens and finishing the harvests of their labours. Here are a few beautiful flower beds from Minter Gardens for you to see. These will change in the coming weeks to fall.
Here they are using Hens and Chicks plants to define the borders of the designs.

The Canadian Flag in flowers!!

The Peacock's beautiful tail fanned out in colourful plants.

The newest addition to the garden is this Gecko, done entirely out of succulent plants. Isn't he cute!!

Friday's Favorite Five

Hello and welcome to Friday's Fave Five. I am learning to love the lists!!

1) Oprah Show, which I watch sometimes has things every now and then that resonate. I turned it on this afternoon and the show was celebrating 10 years of her magazine. Dr. Phil was on it who I never watch but he told everyone that every now and then you have to do something in your life to shake it up. He talked about some people never knowing they are depressed until suddenly they become happy. That you have to have something in your life you are passionate about and that you do the unexpected every now and then. Change is hard and scary. It keeps people in thier ruts for too long. Then he proceeded to shave off his mustache on national TV! He put action to his words!!
2) The reason the above made so much sense to me was because I did the same thing this very morning, without even seeing the show beforehand. I had my hair cut! I mean really cut. I've never been brave enough to have done what got done today. And I love it!!
3) My son surprised me this week by showing up on my doorstep on Sunday morning. I had been very worried about him for a while, and he was not answering any phonecalls and is subject to deep bouts of depression and I knew he having troubles so to see him and see he was okay was so relieving and good. He drove here from Alberta where he lives, he was feeling homesick. So good to see him!!
4) Sockeye Salmon - there is a huge run of salmon this year after years of nothing and we bought fish for our freezer from commercial fisheries. The first salmon on the barbeque was incredibly delicious!!
5) Extra Spicy Clamato Juice - Can't get enough of the stuff lately!!

Skywatch Friday

Here are a couple of pictures taken at Crescent Beach in White Rock, B.C.  last weekend.
It was a beautiful sunset, and a mild evening. There have been lots of forest fires burning in the province of B.C. lately, so that makes for awesome sunsets as well.

We sat for a long time and watched the sun go down It was a beautiful evening, warm and calm. And the company was excellent.

I love the ripples on the water. Makes me wonder what it was that stirred the pot!!!
