The Weekend in Black and White

Some of the Things I am loving right now:
My son Eric is visiting from Alberta for a couple of weeks. So good to see him!
Happy to have my Photoshop back after the big crash a couple of weeks ago. I missed it!
The wonderful Ribs my Hubby just cooked for dinner tonight.
Peppermint Candy Ice Cream, which is only available at Christmas. That is a good thing too!
So many things to be grateful for!
Getting ready for Christmas is very slow this year. I have hardly even started yet!
I guess I still have time, and a few more shopping days left!
Thank goodness for that!!!
How is your preparations going?

The Weekend in Black and White

I recently featured pictures from a Tribute Garden I visited a couple of weeks ago. Here are some of the Statues from the garden.

I thought the one above here was a bit creepy! I think it is just the patina from the paint peeling over time that made it a bit creepy!

This statue was the last statue to be placed in the garden. It still has the red bow tied to the arm from Christmas.

The Weekend in Black and White

These few photos were taken today at Minter Gardens.
Fresh snow on the mountains from yesterday's snowfall.

A knarly looking tree and a water fountain.

This actually is just a front for a church. It looks real but its not.

An old Wagon and a couple of flower pots.

The Weekend in Black and White

A few pictures of PowWow Dancers that my hubby took last weekend.
The powwow was in Coquitlam all last weekend.

Dancers of all ages danced.

I think these look great in black and white. Colour photos were good too but black and white is dramatic.

The Weekend in Black and White

These pictures for Monochrome Weekly are ones taken by my hubby. We go out together on Saturday's and find cool places to take photos together. I thought today, I would show you some of his photos!
Today we went out to the Heron Preserve in Chilliwack. Of course it started raining as soon as we got out of the car!

Outside of the Lodge building was an area with bird feeders about. It was a happening place for the small birds!

I am not one that knows the different kinds of birds so I don't have names for you. If you know what these are, it would be cool to here.

The Weekend in Black and White

Despite being a cold windy day, the sun was out and the sky was blue. It was a nice day to get out and about and we don't get too many of those in the winter. So we braved the freezing temps and the crazy wind and went out to take some photos.
This is out on the backside of Chilliwack following the Chilliwack River.
Picnic area beside the Chilliwack River.

There was a huge covered Camp area where cooking could be done. I wondered about all the cement blocks around the camp area, probably people have tryed driving through instead of around.

Here is Chilliwack River, along side of the picnic area. I took a lot more pictures playing with the shutter speed and I will post those in the coming days so come on back and see them too!

The Weekend in Black and White

Here are a few photos of the deeply forested areas in Golden Ears Park in Maple Ridge, B.C.
It was a cloudy, rainy dismal day when these were taken.

The fog was low lying in the forest, lending an ethereal quality to the forest.
The thick mossy vegetation on the forest floor and moss all over lended to the gloomy quality the cloudy day held.

The Weekend in Black and White

The Woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep,
And many miles before I sleep,
And many miles before I sleep.

The Weekend in Black and White

I found an old farmhouse in Alberta that was abandoned. We stopped to take some pictures of the house and in one of the outbuildings this is what I found sitting on the window ledge of the loft.
This Barn Owl was content to let me take its picture as long as i stood by the car, but when I moved toward it, it flew away.

The Weekend in Black and White

Just in time for Halloween, spiderwebs are always an intriguing thing to photograph. And in black and white, spiderwebs look even more dramatic!
Chain link fence makes a good backdrop too!!

The Weekend in Black and White

I like to see trees in different areas, trees that are subject to different growing conditions and environments and see how they adapt to the areas. The trees in Alberta where I just returned from vacation are subject to very cold winters, very warm summers and dry conditions. There aren't many of them so some have to survive the elements out in the open. You see how they bend to the wind, grow to their evironments.

At their bases are scrubby bushes, so they rely on the falling leaves each year to supply the nutrients they need to continue to survive. They grow kind of scrubby and thin, reaching for the sky.
We can take a lesson or two watching trees grow and survive!

The Weekend in Black and White

About five weeks ago, my daughter made the decision to move from here out to Eastern Alberta. It seems like only a few days ago she told me of her move, and now the move day is here.
Just like the mirror, things are really closer than they appear. This date just arrived so soon.

It's like a bridge she is crossing over to a new chapter in her life, the path leads to a new life and its hard to see on the other side where that is going to take her.
I am driving with her in her car out to Alberta and will help her move in to her new place, see where she is going to live and get a feel for the area. We have never done a road trip before, just the two of us so this should be fun. Bittersweet, because when I catch the plane back home in a week and a half and leave her at her new home, I know I am going to be sad to leave her and am going to miss her a lot. That will be the bittersweet of it all. It is a great opportunity for her out there, I could never stand in her way of that.
So the next few entries to my blog will be of our trip. Stay tuned.....
