Project 52 - School's Out!

P52 with Kent Weakley
School here was out yesterday. Now in the next two months its parents time to find out just how grossly underpaid our teachers are!
This little one room school actually is not a working school but rather a heritage site. It is open to the public but it wasn't yesterday when we happened upon it.
You can see peeking out from around the back of the building the Outhouse that kids used when they attended the school.
We looked through the windows in the front and it looks like a cool place to explore and take photos of so we will be going back to visit it again!
It looks to be restored from its previous days. The huge field would of been a wonderful place for baseball games and track and field or just laying down on the grass on a day like today and watching the clouds float by!
This little school is the third oldest school in B.C. It is located on 8th ave. in the township of Langley.

Grass is Greener on the Other Side

Photo Art Friday
I used Painterly textures on these two photos and also played around with poster edges and finding edges filters. I also tryed out the watercolours filter. I then found a tutorial on adding borders and played around with that as well.

This horse was much too intent on eating than paying any attention to me. I wanted a good head shot but dinner took priority!
And even though a barbed wire fence was seperating the horse from the good grass, the horse managed to find a way.
I guess the grass is greener on the other side!

Texture Tuesday - Flowers

I used Reverie texture first at soft light and then at hard light.
I thought it makes a rather blurry photo kind of ethereal and dreamy!

Finding the Flood Waters

Scenic Sunday
Problems such as late Spring arrival and unseasonably cooler, wetter temperaturers and slower snow melt have come together now at the beginning of Summer to create a series of Flood problems all along the Fraser River from Prince George right down to the mainland. We went out yesterday and snapped a few photos of flooded areas, here are some of those!
This area of the marina is actually a sloped drive down to lower boats into the river. The wharf usually slopes down along but is now floating in the flood water.
This was taken at Matsqui Park along the bank of the Fraser River. A hiking trail runs along here by the fence.
Not safe for picnics at the moment!
This road leads down to the entrance of the camping areas.
The Mission Abbotsford bridge.
The Flood Water Markers on one of the Spans of the bridge. The dates mark the past floods in this area that were devestating to the areas and people who live by the river.
There is a road under there somewhere. These trees have to survive the occasional floodwaters that happen here.
A road to the camp area under water.
There are picnic tables under this area, and the yellow is actually a lid on a garbage can.
The information sign and a view of the bridge.
All these photos are straight out of the camera as well. More later, do not want to flood you with too many photos!!!

I have been seriously ignoring this blog lately since we started our home renovations and it shows! Hardly any pictures this month, and honestly my camera hardly has been out of the case lately. Now most of the renos are done, and the place is mostly put back together again so its time to get some creative juices flowing and feed my soul!
This is a Spring photo I took in Chilliwack, B.C. The snow is melting late this year and combined with record rainfalls we have some serious water in the Fraser River. I have not seen the river this high in years. One of my co-workers got a flood evacuation notice yesterday to be prepared to leave her home at a moments notice. Kind of scary.
Hell has no fury like that of Mother Nature!

Project 52 - Water Play

project 52 p52 weekly photo challenge my3boybarians.com
This house has been in a complete upheaval while we paint the entire house, so I totally missed last week's prompt of Play while my entire computer was cowering under sheets of plastic, stacked in the middle of the room. Right now the front door is being painted, and as far as I know I think it is the last thing to be done. We will get the house back!
I combined both last week and this week's prompts into Water Play for this weeks photos.
These were taken at White Rock beach on a stormy day. Water was full of waves and white caps and as far as I was concerned not fit for me to dip my toes in, but for some men and certain beasts it was a riot!

It was hard for him to pull the sail up and keep it up without just blowing over to the other side, but eventually he managed and went skimming along the waves.
This dog knew his red ball was somewhere in the waves!
Got it!!
Back to the shore to his buddies.
So cold on this day, I am surprised I could keep my camera steady enough without the shivering!

Tulip Treats

Scattered Horizons

It has been a crazy week here in transformation as we are getting some renovations done to our house. Painting is almost complete and it will be nice to put things back to normal afterwards. Its hard to live in this chaos so we are looking forward to when its complete and cleaned up!
This photo of a Tulip was taken at Minter Gardens and transformed to Black/White in Photoshop!
