Beaded Bokeh

A bracelet on a craft table that caught my eye.
It's not something that I would buy to wear, its really not my style of jewelry, but I liked the colors and the way the light played on the beads.
Photography makes it possible for me to see the things that I normally would not even pause to see. It opens my world a little bit more!

Ice Pickles

I have been struggling lately with my photography so its cool to see something in my travels that captivates my attention.

My hubby and I were out the other day and happened to take a wrong turn which brought us to the back of a large store. As we were passing by the back storage area I saw all these icicles attached to a shelving unit.
It caught my eye and I asked my hubby to stop so I could capture a few photos.

That doesn't happen often for me with my photo slump, so he was very happy to stop to let me take these few photos.
He told me that he used to call icicles Ice Pickles! Hence the name of this post!

I liked the textures of the chain link, the metal shelving, the silver shelves and the sparkly ice pickles.

Hopefully when you see some icicles you will remember this post and call them Ice Pickles too!

Its a Wonderful World

Do these pictures look as cold as it was when they were taken? It snowed tiny little flakes all day yesterday and this is what accumulated from the snowfall. The snow is powdery and light, and did I mention cold!!
You can't make a snowball out of it to throw.

When you walk in it, the footsteps make a crunching sound.

It just compacts it down when you drive on it. And if you spun your wheels enough you could make a thin layer of ice.
This is our favorite park to visit in Medicine Hat. To get down to it you have to go down a steep winding long hill, with a drop off if you were so inclined to slide over the side on your way down.

You can see it is quite deserted out here because most people are too scared or is that too smart to attempt the hill down and then back up again!

The Sand cliffs across the water from Echodale park. The geese flying over the river.
One thing about snow on a sunny day, its so bright it almost hurts to really open your eyes.

Love the shadows.

The temperature today is -8Celcius, in other words Cold!

I think these winter pics of Echodale are just one example of What a Wonderful World it is we live in!!

Blurred Perspective.

I have been loving the colors of Autumn that are on display right now. The yellows, the oranges and especially the reds. I loved the way the light shone on the leaves. It was golden light, that hour of the evening where the magic happens. My shutter speed was high and caught the leaves so that the huge wind we were having this day was not blowing at all.
I kind of missed the wind though and the effect of movement and the blur that comes with that, so I put the blur back! Kind of like it!

A Scavenger Hunt

Watching
Meet Molly, my sister's Maltese dog. She is constantly watching me, I think wanting to be picked up!
Leafy
We spent the day at Echodale, shuffling through the leaves that have fallen. It's one of my favorite things to do in the Fall. When we lived in BC it was very hard to do that as it rained all the time, the leaves were wet and soggy all the time. Here they are dry and crisp and so fun to shuffle through!

First World Problem
The problem here is the car parked in the parking area somehow made itself invisible when I took this photo. Somehow the rule of checking out the background for annoying things that ruin your otherwise perfect shot didn't happen this time!
Still
And peaceful, Love visiting this Park. It is always different and always the same. If you know what I mean!
I love this shot of the shadows falling gently over the leafy carpet.
Just waiting for picnic time.

A Good Day
A great day is shuffling through crisp crunching leaves, throwing handfuls of dry leaves into the breeze and watching them fly through the air! A good day is going for a walk along paths by the lake, seeing the gorgeous yellows, oranges and reds of colour, feeling the breeze through your hair, visiting with family while walking.

Everyday is a good day, you could say the best day of my life, it is what I have right this moment, the only day and its the best!!

My Brand New Niece

My brand new niece Kenedee, was born Friday evening, weighing in at 7lb 8oz and 21 inches. Kenedee already knows how to make people wait, she made us wait an extra 8 days before making her entrance.
Here my sister's dog Molly is quite curious about the baby. My sister is the proud first time Grandma!

Kenedee is trying to wake up here, she was sleeping soundly for a good hour before.

She is beautiful and perfect. And I am sure she is going to be spoiled!

Moments

Its been an exciting week here. I finally got rid of my crutches last week, which is a huge step in recovery, pardon the pun! A few flare ups in pain but so far its all good. So nice to be free of those crutches.
My brother Brian was out for a visit from his home town of Victoria. He was here for a week. We took him to the airport today for his flight home. The week's visit went by so fast, its hard to believe sometimes how fast time flies!
And my brand new Niece Kenedee was born yesterday! She kept everyone waiting a week past due date and finally made her entrance yesterday evening.  Hubby and I went up to the hospital today after dropping Brian off at the airport to finally meet this little one!
And almost overnight Autumn has arrived. Fall colours are everywhere. These few pictures were taken outside of the airport terminal. One thing about chain link fences that always seem to attract my eye is all the things that get caught in the links. Things that should of moved on long ago but just seems to stick around. We all have moments like that, we can't seem to let some things go.

There are some moments that we should keep tucked away forever as well.
I will keep that moment I first laid eyes on my niece Kenedee, saw that little shock of dark hair on her little head, her pink skin, the tiny folds under her neck, her little ears. Her beautiful blue eyes. I won't get that moment again,  and I will treasure that little gift!

I'll have some photos in later posts of her, come back later and check it out!

Today's Flowers!

How can a bouquet of flowers not make you smile!!

Fall is upon us now and I am looking forward to getting out and taking in the cool days and  the autumn colors  of the season. On a different cool note, my brother is arriving tomorrow from Victoria for a week's visit. We are going to be showing him the sites!!

Turtle Down

I can't believe its been a month since I last posted. I am in such a slump as far as photography is concerned. Don't know where my mojo went.
I can't blame it on my broken leg, although that has made it hard, but not impossible  to get out and about with my camera. I can't just throw the camera into the car, start it up and drive to someplace awesome and just begging to have its photo taken.
I feel kind of like these turtles, hard to get from A to B, so used to staying in one or two spots, that now I can't get myself in gear. I am slow to move anywhere, just seems like such a challenge.
This is not to say I haven't taken any photos, I just look at them and have a hard time seeing anything good in them.
I think its time to get myself over it. Time to make myself start, and it should flow in time again.
Tired of being stuck in this rotten slump.

Wild Birds

Wild Bird Wednesday
Wordless Wednesday with Joy
Here is a selection of birds who call the Butterfly Garden their home!
I have posted a couple of previous posts of photos taken there, if you want to go and check those out as well!

Not sure what kind these are but I thought they were adorable!

This garden housed budgies and canaries as well.

Enjoy your week!

Flutter By Too

Here are some more photos of our recent trip to Butterfly Gardens. Most of the photos I took here were from a seated position on one of the benches located around the center pool in the gardens.

These butterflies had a brilliant blue colour on the top of their wings which you could not see when they were resting. Silly little things kept their wings tightly closed. I love the pattern though in the wings, it really helps to camouflage them against the foliage.  Some I went right past and didn't see them until I turned around and looked again.
Looks like eyes on the wings, I think!

I thought this butterfly perched on a sprig of red flowers was gorgeous.

They had little bird bowls at different intervals that contained pieces of fresh fruit.
This is the Atlas Moth, the largest moth in the world. There was a small tree which had caterpillars of the Atlas moth, but I couldn't get to it with my crutches.

I think this little butterfly reminds me of Halloween with its brilliant orange and black colours. It was quite small as well.

Sometimes you are lucky to find a little oasis in the middle of your town, that even if you aren't able to go to visit someplace warm and tropical, it can transport you there for a few hours that you spend there.
Lush plants, flowers and foliage, humid and misty, beautiful butterflies, birds, fish and wildlife, all at your back door so to speak!

We liked it so much that when leaving we bought a season's pass so we can go visit again. I am going to wait until I get rid of my leg cast and crutches and can wander these boardwalk paths at my own leisure.
Check out the post previous to this one on the blog for more photos and make sure to come back as I have lots of Bird photos to post next!
