Project 52 - Endless Summer

Project 52 - p52 weekly photo challenge with Kent Weakley
The other day at Mill Lake we met a couple named Ray and Wanda, who brought thier two remote control Sailboats down to the lake to sail. We struck up a conversation with them and ended up staying for about four hours sailing boats and visiting.
This is Wanda's sailboat. She doesn't have a name yet for her boat and she was adamant that she did not like the black painted on the boat!
Both her boat and Ray's boat were built by Ray. He uses his boat to sail in Competitions and last week said he brought home a silver!
Skywatch Friday
Gorgeous day for sailing! The temperature was perfect and the sky lightly cloudy. It was one of those endless summer days you could enjoy day after day!
Ray's boat is called the Wild Thing! It was sleek and swift and I am sure its name had something to do with his personality!

This is Wanda. She is in her late seventies and told me that her and Ray were going to be celebrating thier 50th Anniversary in a couple of weeks. He called her Honey and fussed over her.
Click to see the rules and to take a badge for yourself.
And Ray is 80 years young. He was very spry and strong. He was protective over his boats and refused any help getting them in and out of the water and he was attentive and caring to Wanda.
We shared stories and pieces of each of our lives with them and came away at the end of the day much better for having shared our time with them.
Its one of the things I enjoy about endless summers. The weather is fine and people are out and about. You never know who you will meet and what you will enjoy!

Medal wonders.

I am linking up with http://dearlittleredhouse.blogspot.ca/ for Mosaic Monday.
One man's junk is another man's treasures. Or so the saying goes!
These were all discards brought to Grammy and Grumpa's Antique barn. To them they are treasures and part of a time long past.
I found all these different metals at an Antique Barn, parts of various machinery implements. They all have circles of some form in common and thier rusty colours and textures really caught my eye.
I think my favorite of the bunch is the lower right corner photo. I like the focus on the first ring, and the depth of field of the receding rings.

Project 52 - Heat

Project 52 - p52 weekly photo challenge with Kent Weakley
Last week I dropped a little hint about where the strawberries I featured in my Ice post were going to end up. And here it is for you.
Strawberry Habenero Sauce
Hot, Hot Heat!
Here are the ingredients to make a batch of Sauce. No doubt this is one of the hottest things I have made! Habenero peppers are right up there on the heat scale. I did not use anywhere near the amount the recipe actually called for and even though I cut way back on the peppers, it still packs a wollup in the heat department!
My brother Brian would love this stuff! It is sweet, tangy, savoury and hot! Even if you don't use the amount of peppers called for or the amount I used, you should still give this a try!
Ingredients below!
I am sure if you are making this you could substitute another type of pepper for the Habeneros, but why not give it a try!!
Recipe:
3/4 lb. fresh Habeneros (I used 1/5 lb)
1 lb. fresh Strawberries
1 TBSP. Salt
1 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
3/4 cup Mango Nectar
1 TBSP. Honey
I would suggest that when you chop up the Habenero Peppers, you put on a pair of disposable vinyl gloves. You don't want to get this stuff in your eye later on. I also took the ribs and seeds out of the peppers as I chopped them up. Most of the heat comes especially from the seeds.
Put the chopped up Habenero's into the bottom of a pot, add the Vinegar and Salt. Cook on high heat for 7 to 8 minutes until the peppers are nice and soft.
Place the peppers and vinegar mixture into a food processor, add 1 lb. Strawberries, Mango Nectar and the Honey. Process the Hell out of it!
You can add more Mango Nectar to the sauce if you feel it is still too hot for you.
That is it. Bottle it up and give it a shot.

We tryed this with Saltine crackers with a chunk of Feta Cheese, Strawberry Habenero sauce and fresh Strawberry slices.
Jam Hands
And after supper we poured it over Vanilla Bean IceCream with fresh Strawberries. The cold of the ice cream really helped mellow the heat of the sauce.
I have also added a good spoonful of it to our barbeque sauce and slathered it onto whatever is being barbequed at that moment.
And I made a batch of Bacon Jam and used a quarter cup of it in place of the chipotle peppers the recipe called for. Yum!

And just because I learned a new skill in Photoshop today and created a mosaic out of all the photos!
Still have some work to do here, getting the scale proportions right! Always learning!
Have a great weekend!

Project 52 - Ice

Project 52 - p52 weekly photo challenge with Kent Weakley
Ice is a commodity in this house that is in short supply when the weather is as warm as it has been lately. It does not last long enough in the freezer sometimes to even freeze properly. It is a regular addition to whatever cooling drink we are having!
The few shadows here just mean I didn't have the lighting figured out!
Shadow Shot Sunday 2
These Strawberries are actually going to be part of next week's Project 52 theme - Heat.
That is all I'll say about them, you just have to come back and find out what is planned!
I bought a few containers of these berries today. So delicious just to snack on!
 Ruby Tuesday 2
You can pretty up your ice cubes by freezing small strawberries in them when you make them. Just saying!

Learning how to convert photos in different ways to Black/White. This one I used a Gradient. And I used Levels to increase contrast.

Abbotsford Airshow

P52 with Kent Weakley
Every year we wait for the second August weekend for the Abbotsford Airshow. This is the 30th year for the Airshow and even though we never actually go the airshow, we weren't going to miss it! Our friends, Janice and Frank live on a large farm a couple miles from the airport and that was where we went to see the show.
Hubby and I are not one for big crowds and hot tarmac so we don't actually like going to the airport for it.
We sat outside in thier front yard, and watched the planes, while having a good visit, a bit of wine and shade from thier big oak trees to rest in away from the heat. It is one of Summer's favorite things to do!
These are the American Thunderbirds, flying in formation.

Loved watching the jetstreams as they flew in formation!

This particular formation is in honour of the fallen soldiers. The lone plane flying away from the formation signifies those fallen soldiers.
Starburst formation breakaway. They all fly in formation and then all break away in different directions with jetstream going.

You can see in the background the hazy Mt. Baker.
A few more of the different war planes flying.
I think this is a Spitfire, but I am not certain.
Fighter Jet and a Warplane flying in formation.
Some arieal acrobatics!
Comox Search and Rescue Plane.

I caught a photo of the afterburners on this Jet as he flew past us.
This guy was low and loud!

These photos are all straight out of the Camera (SOOC)
We missed the Canadian Snowbirds but are thinking of going back tomorrow to Janice and Frank's place and catching them as well.
