Weekend Snapshots

It is a scorcher here and has been now for over a week. We have broken long standing temperature records all over the place and there does not seem to be any relief from the heat in the near future. We went to the beach today and there was a bit of a breeze coming off the water but still in the sun it was hot. I took pictures and we also attended a Photo Expo in Harrison Hot Springs, but those pictures are still on my camera and I won't get at them tonight.
Instead I thought I would give you a picture I took a couple of weekends ago and just last week entered it into a Photo Contest under the category "Purple".
That is me you can see in the reflection of the side mirror taking the picture. I liked the other reflections you can see as well.
I wonder, and this is just my silly mind always on the go, which one is the real world, the reflection, the picture, or the picture of the reflection? When does it cease to be real and only a reflection of the real??
I know, deep thoughts!!!

Weekend Snapshots

My weekend snapshots come from the Classic Car Show my hubby and I went to last weekend. The show was held at Minter Gardens in Chilliwack, a over 700 acre public garden here that is open year round.

There were three sections in the Gardens that contained the Car show and I took so many pictures that I will be showing them here for a long time to come!!
A lot of the cars had pictorials of the before and after shots. Its hard to believe some of the before shots (Wrecks!) and to see the finished products.
Here is a view of just one of the areas of cars. You can see how many there were just here.

Weekend Snapshots

The town I live in held its annual Berry Beat Festival today. Actually all this weekend. In this town alone berry harvesting accounts for 25% of our annual income from agriculture. There are at least 5000 acres of berries planted here.
These are just a couple of snapshots I took today, just straight out of the camera photos. The ladies of the Red Hat Society were all present today, very colourful and festive in thier purple dresses and red hats. It reminds me of the poem I read a long time ago, When I Grow Old I Shall Wear Purple.

Here is one of the hats, festively done up with heart shaped Strawberries.

When I am Old
I will wear Purple!
When I am an old woman,
I shall wear purple - -
With a red hat which doesn't go,
and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandles,
And say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
and gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bells
and run with my stick along public railings,
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit!
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
or only bread and pickles for a week,
and hoard pens and pencils
and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
and pay our rent
and not swear in the street,
and set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner
and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised
when suddenly I am old,
And start to wear purple!
--Jenny Joseph
I have always loved this poem, I think because it was a favorite of my Mom's and she has been gone now for many years. It reminds me a bit about her and I feel a twinge of missing her when I think of it. So here it is for you all to read and contemplate.

Weekend Snapshot

Today, Saturday, I had an idea for a photo so hubby and I headed down to Crescent Beach to the sand to set it up. Can you tell what my idea was by looking at the above picture??

How about this picture??
Well, I wanted to make a clock out of beach stones, with driftwood clock hands, just at the edge of the tide as the tide was coming in. I am trying to get a picture for a photo contest I want to enter. The only problem is that I was already too late when I got to the beach, the tide was coming in fast and in the few minutes it took me to run around and find the stones and set them up, you can see that the tide just ran right over the area and washed away my makeshift clock hands. I tryed snapping a few shots but alas, it is all washed up!!

Weekend Snapshot Meme

This is my first time contributing to this meme so thought I would share a couple of pictures I took today. I am trying to get a good picture for a amateur photo contest I enter each week and for this week the theme is vegetables.
These are just a couple of the outtakes from all the photos I took. I am trying to get a different spin on the plain old vegetable!!

These are also straight out of the camera, no work done on either of them!!
