Stormy Skies!

Us girls took a trip yesterday down to Lethbridge for a bit of shopping, dining, and girl time. Our trip back home at the end of the day was a sky full of dramatic clouds and colours and Rainbows.
Just a hint of a rainbow in the distance. By the time I dug my camera out of the bag it was starting to fade. I thought maybe I had missed it but it only got better as the miles went by.

We saw flocks and flocks of birds flying across the sky in front of the advancing storm. You can see a V of birds above the red and white sign. Just one of many flocks.

The sky is so huge in this country! I can't get over the vastness of it.

You would think that having lived in B.C. where it rains all the time, that one would get to see Rainbows more often. Truth is we hardly saw one at all. That is because you need the sun to shine at the same time as it rains, and while it rained a lot it was hardly ever sunny at the same time, hence, no rainbows to see.
I have been in Alberta for two months and just yesterday saw my first Rainbow!! How gorgeous and beautiful is that!!!

I love the colours of the stormy clouds. You can't paint that colour!!
A Grain Elevator ahead on the side of the road.

One end of the Rainbow!

My camera did not do justice to the sunset that was happening behind us seen through the side rear mirror. The sky was a blaze of yellow, orange and reds.

On the Road to Elkwater

One of my must see places in Alberta is this little farmhouse, schoolhouse. I have never been to see it in the winter, up until now. I have a few pictures on the blog of this in the middle of Summer though. In the summer I have been known to climb through the barbed wire fences and get closer to take photos at different angles!! Not this time though. We parked on the side of the gravel road to take these pictures. The snow has drifted up against the fence quite deeply in spots, and even though we did try to open up the small gate which was frozen shut, we didn't get through the fence.
We had to use our four wheel drive to get off the side of the road!
You can see the building from a long ways away when you are driving down the highway. You have to turn off the main road and travel up a gravel road to get to where it is located. I don't know why I like this little schoolhouse so much, I think it might be just wondering about its history and the stories its four walls could tell!

The view from the top of the hill that this little Schoolhouse is located on is awesome. Rolling hills all around, big sky country! In the summer herds of cattle can be seen in the fields below and the colors are green and gorgeous.

One of the windows have been broken and removed the entire time I have seen this building. I looked into the window last time I was here, and all that is in the building is a  thick layer of dirt on the ground. I'm lucky it wasn't home to something scary!

My hubby and I have been in Alberta for a month now, and most days are bright and sunny like today. Blue skies and sunshine are the norm!!

A view of the road just leading away from the schoolhouse.

I am loving exploring this country we are in. Alberta is a beautiful province, huge skies and bright sunny days.

Roadtrip Part 3

Along the #1 Highway outside of Banff, Alberta, we saw these twin tunnels built over the road at regular intervals down the highway. These are walkways over the highway for wild animals to traverse from one side of the highway to the other side without being hit by vehicles and they make the roads safer for them and for the vehicles and people who travel the roads.
They are completely fenced in so that the path they take from one side of the road to the other is clear for them and safe to walk over. Fences along the side of the highway are also constructed to keep the animals away from the roads.

These photos were taken on our recent roadtrip from B.C. to Alberta to visit family.
They also make a pretty good frame for taking a photo through!
The skies were partly cloudy and the further we got into Alberta the more the skies got blue. We left the cloudy skies behind in B.C.!
