Today's Flowers

These are the last of hanging baskets in a little town called Fort Langley we visited a couple weekends ago. The yellow of the flowers looks like sunshine, something we are sadly lacking in these days.

These were border flowers planted along the walkways of the town. I think today they would be drowning. Its raining like cats and dogs out there.

Trainspotting

Another Halloween has come and gone and I still suffer the remains of the day here in the form of a big bowl of leftover candy that did not get given out. We bought enough candy to cover the number of kids we had last year but there were noticeably fewer kids this year. Now I am stuck with this huge bowl of leftover temptation. And I have substituted a meal for this stuff as well.
I need to get my butt literally out the door and to the gym pronto to wear off a bit of the effects but the sugar high, or rather the sugar low is keeping me indoors. Not to mention the dark skies and the monsoon coming down at the moment. Who wants to go out in that??
As you can tell I am seriously lacking in motivation and overdosing in lethargy. We did get out for a bit before the heaven's opened yesterday and went trainspotting. We met another couple with wonderful cameras too who were making thier rounds and taking thier pictures and stood around waiting for trains and talking the talk.
Finally a train started toward us but as you can see in the picture one jogger racing ahead of the train as well. Now that could of been really bad as this is just a train trestle across the Fraser River with no place to hide on either side should the train overtake you. He was literally running for his life. It could of been a really horrifying thing to witness.
He did make it through with about ten seconds to spare, the train blasting his horn the whole way through, like the jogger did not know there was a train there.
I learned from the couple we met of a Photography Club here in my town and that it meets every first and third monday of the month so might just go tomorrow and check them out.
I am seriously going to try and motivate my sluggish body out the door and to the gym now. Wish me luck!!!

Today's Flowers

Just a picture of Wild Roses I happened upon recently on a holiday weekend. One of the things I liked about them was how gracefully they are going about dying. Even with petals missing, leaves curling and changing colours and bare rosehips around, they still go dignified and gracefully to their demise. Fall is like that all around. Leaves dying, flowers wilting, trees becoming bare and stark against a fall sky, it does not pass soundlessly into the night. It goes out with a blaze of colour, rains down from the sky and carpets the earth, nurturing the soil in preparation for another spring. It all knows its not the end but really only a beginning. Really it is a beautiful thing.

Skywatch Friday

Last weekend my husband and I went to Harrison Hotsprings Hotel and Resort for the weekend to celebrate his birthday. Saturday morning as we were sitting having breakfast in a local restaurant we saw these four planes flying over the lake. It was early morning and the sky was partly cloudy. The start of a beautiful and warm fall day!

Here they are heading off over the mountain. It was a pleasant surprise to see them and as well to have the camera out and ready to capture the moment!!

Today's Flower

This is going back into recent flower pictures I took last summer, actually before I bought myself the Nikon I use now. This was done in the camera, just ramped up the light until it became almost x-ray like.

A picture of the skies over the Apple Orchard here in town, the day we went to get apples for the Thanksgiving Apple Pie I baked. (A few posts back!!) It was a beautiful day for picking.

Things to be grateful about....

I have my health, even if my body sometimes feels older than it actually is.
Wonderful clear blue skies on a cool and crisp fall day.
Supper and wine at the neighbour's house, good friendships.
A long chat with my son tonight. Man, I miss that boy.
