Eggs Easy Under

This tiny little Quail puffed out her feathers so she looked a lot bigger and wider than she actually was so that she could completely cover all the eggs she was sitting on.
She was so tiny that when she did get up and take a break we were so surprised that she was sitting on 7eggs.
I mean, they took up more space than she did!
It was such a surprise!

Moments

Its been an exciting week here. I finally got rid of my crutches last week, which is a huge step in recovery, pardon the pun! A few flare ups in pain but so far its all good. So nice to be free of those crutches.
My brother Brian was out for a visit from his home town of Victoria. He was here for a week. We took him to the airport today for his flight home. The week's visit went by so fast, its hard to believe sometimes how fast time flies!
And my brand new Niece Kenedee was born yesterday! She kept everyone waiting a week past due date and finally made her entrance yesterday evening.  Hubby and I went up to the hospital today after dropping Brian off at the airport to finally meet this little one!
And almost overnight Autumn has arrived. Fall colours are everywhere. These few pictures were taken outside of the airport terminal. One thing about chain link fences that always seem to attract my eye is all the things that get caught in the links. Things that should of moved on long ago but just seems to stick around. We all have moments like that, we can't seem to let some things go.

There are some moments that we should keep tucked away forever as well.
I will keep that moment I first laid eyes on my niece Kenedee, saw that little shock of dark hair on her little head, her pink skin, the tiny folds under her neck, her little ears. Her beautiful blue eyes. I won't get that moment again,  and I will treasure that little gift!

I'll have some photos in later posts of her, come back later and check it out!

Today's Flowers!

How can a bouquet of flowers not make you smile!!

Fall is upon us now and I am looking forward to getting out and taking in the cool days and  the autumn colors  of the season. On a different cool note, my brother is arriving tomorrow from Victoria for a week's visit. We are going to be showing him the sites!!

Flutter By!

Hubby and I went to the local Butterfly house here in town and I will be posting some of the pictures of the different butterflies, birds, and animals we saw there.
It was gorgeous there, tons of plants, flowers and a big pond in the middle. Mist sprinklers here and there. Bridges, and wooden paths to traverse. Benches along the way which with my injured leg were my friend!!
Blue skies coming in from behind the glass gave an appearance of being outside to the place. It was very warm and humid inside. Kind of tropical!
I wish I knew the names of the different butterflies to add here, but I don't. I just enjoyed watching them, flying and taking breaks on different leaves of the abundant foliage there.

This butterfly was beautiful, and hanging out on orange flowers to boot!
Come back over the next few days to check out more photos of Butterfly House!

Purple heals my blues

Its been so hard to even think about getting out with my camera to take pictures since breaking my leg three weeks ago. Walking with a cast and crutches has been very awkward, and carrying a full camera bag didn't thrill me a lot. Consequently, I missed my Tuesday project 52 photo, but here it is better late than never!!
Hubby and I went out today, first time with my camera and went to a local park. Not much walking required, or rather navigating with crutches, we found a nice bed of flowers with a bench around it, and I got some pics.

We also found a park bench by the lake and watched swimmers brave the water, seagulls fight for Pizza and dogs walking their people!!
I know I am breaking a few rules of composition, but I kind of like the off kiltered way of cropping I chose for these flower shots. It fits my off kilter way of getting around right now!

Finally a close up for you.
I am going to the Specialist on Tuesday and will have some more X-rays, close up shots of my broken bone to find out how its healing. I hope well, and that I will only have a few more weeks of inconvenience to go through.

Pink Seems to be my Color!

It took quite a while for flowering pink blossoms to show up, but now that they are here, I can't get enough of them. I hope you don't get sick of my little obsesssion!
I just feel that as they are only here for a little while, you have to seize the moment, so to speak. I wait all year for pink, and it is always worth the wait!

The little splashes of red amongst all the pink is like tiny jewels. I love it!

Pale to Light to Dark Pink to Red, lovely tones.

In the Pink, part 2

I waited a long time to see some pink blossoms. Most of my friends in B.C. have already been talking about Cherry blossoms for over a month now. In fact they say their blossoms are already past their lifespan.
So finally, ours is starting to bloom, and I couldn't be happier.
I thought I'd probably never see blossoms here in Alberta.
Its always windy here, so it was hard getting some photos that weren't blowing in that wind.
At times the wind blows like crazy, and the air feels full of dust. Tumble weeds blow down the street and pile up on fences and against the sides of homes.

This tiny LadyBug was trying to gather some food and not get blown away into the next yard.

Lots of little buds that still are set to open.

These pink blossoms really signal the arrival of Spring for me. I was beginning the think it wasn't going to happen!

These colours won't be around for much longer and I have waited so long for them, that I am loving being out and seeing their fleeting beauty.

Blue Flowers

I am posting a few more photos of Blue roses for you all to enjoy.
Winter has been long and a bit lingering, so to enjoy some flowers right now, we head out to the store.
Bright blue against a background of white Baby's Breath, gorgeous!

We have to rely on store bought bouquets of flowers here, as Spring is slow to arrive here. Things are greening up a bit, and you can see the beginnings of Tulip and Daffodils growing, but flowers are only found in a flower shop at this time!

It shouldn't be long though and flowers will appear!!

Dreams of Spring Coming

There is beauty in the dried, the dead, the withered.
There is beauty in the old.
There is beauty in the past, and hope for the future.
Nestled amongst the patches of ice, shards of broken pottery and cracked cement the remains of grasses and weeds.

Autumn golds and silvers.

One thing we have had our share of lately is rain. And more rain! And more....
It sure is good for catching water drops though!
This water drop reflects our back fence and the row of trees along the fence.
I don't know what these grass stalks are, but they really hold the water! Click on the photo and see the reflections in the drops!

Smiling Sally
The name of this blog will tell you I am loving water drops! My never ending challenge is to get a perfect reflection, and I haven't managed that yet!

Tiny macrocosms of water. The world reflecting in a tiny drop!

One of the things I am trying to make myself do is to change my header photo. Should be simple! Sounds simple. Some would say I don't like change! But 2013 is definitely my year of change.
Our house is sold and move out day is three weeks away. We are living amongst boxes as we go about the chore of packing and sorting, keeping and giving away. We are simplifying and downsizing and lessening the load. It feels good, the further we go.
The idea of change on such a big scale is daunting, and here I am resisting the simple act of changing my blog header picture! Go figure!
This year my New Year's resolution is "Reconnect"

I feel like these drops at times. Clinging on to a fine wire, any movement will shake me loose and make me fall. The wind can buffet my position and the heat can dry me up.  Any change can come along and send me for a loop.
Its a risk to take a chance, make a change. I'm trying to embrace it, hell, I am embracing it!!
2013 is my year!
