Deer Me

On one of our excursions out to see this new province we are in, we went to Elkwater, which is out of Medicine Hat and going toward the Saskatchewan border. It had snowed quite a bit the day before we went, but was nice and sunny on this day.
One of the things that continues to surprise us here is the number and frequency of deer sightings we see. We see them by themselves or in groups of two or three. We see herds of deer as well.

They don't seem too concerned having us close enough to take photos of them.

While one watches us, the others take their time eating their meal.
We have also seen herds of deer in the farmer's fields here in Elkwater and also by Echodale just outside of Medicine Hat. I'm sure in these herds there are a hundred or more deer milling about.

These deer were hanging out in one of the yards along the main road of Elkwater.

I have photos of the herds of deer we have seen that I will post at a later date!

  1. I love finding deer in their natural habitat. You got some nice captures here, Ms. Dewsberry. One of my favorite places ... the woods. Thanks for sharing in Walk and Click Wednesday!!

  4. Well I always loved the look of deer till we moved here 10 years ago and discovered a DEER overrun world!

The first spring here we planted a huge number of trees: all eaten.

Then we got smart and got BIG TREES and now they are growing.......they came up on the deck and ate the tomato plants in pots.

They had their babies next to the house. They came up to us when we were in the hottub, etc. - so I see deer now and instead of going "OOhh" and "Ahhhhh" I cringe and want to get a bb gun, haha. Not really but I DO run them out of the yard till they learn no one here is going to hand feed them apples anymore.

But, I DO love your pictures and I do love people's enthusiasm for those beautiful animals - but keep them there, haha.

Thanks for your visit today! happy first day of spring!

  6. We don't have deer here so I enjoyed seeing yours. What we have are rabbits - and they eat everything, too! But they're so darned cute that it's hard to get too mad at them.

  11. Great shots! Thanks for sharing them with us. Deer are a problem in the rural areas here, as they are destroying crops, expensive landscaping and causing accidents on the road.
Thanks for stopping by. It is probably good that things are not blooming as early this year, as we have some Winter weather coming in tonight and cold rain
